Vocal Line

2009

For the first time ever, Vocal Line goes to the USA. The tour involves performances in New York City and Washington. In Reston the choir is the headliner of the Sing Strong Festival and takes part in the official competition in which Vocal Line Female takes 1st prize.

In keeping with tradition Vocal Line reports an entirely sold-out Aarhus Festival concert, which this year presents a futuristic fusion between a capella and electronic music.

Vocal Line goes on a mini tour to Germany where the choir performs two double concerts alongside the German vocal group, Maybebop, in Hannover and Rotenburg.

The choir continues its succes in Germany with a concert in front of 900 people in the historical monument of Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche in the centre of Berlin. On its way back to Aarhus the choir performs in Matthäuskirche in Hamburg. 

2008

Vocal Line performs on the Café Hack Christmas show in the Aalborg Centre for Culture and Conference. The concert is broadcasted on the Danish Radio channel, P4.

Vocal Line makes a serious break-through on Zealand with sold-out concerts in Skibby Cinema, the St. Andreas Church in Copenhagen and the Holy Cross Church in Jyllinge.

The choir participates in The Real A Capella Festival in Västerås, Sweden, arranged by the Swedish vocal quintet The Real Group.

Vocal Line performs at the World Choir Symposium, which is transmitted live from Tivoli’s Concert Hall to various European radio channels.

Vocal Line hosts the German choir, Soundstation, which culminates in a double concert at KaserneScenen in Aarhus.

2007

Vocal Line performs sold-out concerts in Bad Kreuznach and Osnabrücke, Germany.

Vocal Line inaugurates the new rhythmic hall at Musikhuset Aarhus with first performance of musical pieces composed by Roger Treece and Bobby McFerrin.

2006

Vocal Line releases their fourth CD, Vocal Stories, and in the month of May does a concert with The Real Group at the Aarhus Vocal Festival.

2005

Vocal Line goes to the 7th World Symposium on Choral Music in Kyoto, Japan, as well as the 6th International Choir Festival in Taipei, Taiwan.

In August of 2005 Vocal Line guest performs with the Danish band TV2 at the charity concert “Rock at Rosenborg”, which is also broadcasted on the Danish television channel, DR1.

The month of September brings a concert at the Vocal Jazz Summit in Mainz, Germany, along with, amongst others, Take 6, New York Voices and The Real Group.

2004

Vocal Line goes on a tour to Germany and the festival Meervocal in Hannover.

The choir performs at Sandbjerg Manor regarding the manor’s 50th anniversary as the property of the University of Aarhus.

The choir does a completely sold-out concert at the St. Lucas Church, Aarhus.

2003

Vocal Line releases their third CD, Emotional Landscapes.

The choir opens up for Bobby McFerrin at Musikhuset Aarhus. During the concert the famous, American superstar invites the choir to join him onstage to sing with him and his ensemble, Voicestra.

Vocal Line also performs at Skanderborg Festival and Stimmen Festival in Lörrach, Germany, along with Voice Messengers (France) and Jazzchor Freiburg (Germany).

2002

In the month of February Vocal Line begins the recording of their third CD.

Apart from this the choir participates in the 1. International Choir Festival in Randers where Vocal Line, once again, brings home 1st prize as well as a Grand Prix.

The Aarhus Festival concert under the name “Vocal Line: Emotional Landscapes” takes place in Helligåndskirken.

On New Year’s Eve, Vocal Line performs on the Danish television channel, TV2.

2001

In February 2001, Vocal Line celebrates their 10th anniversary in two concerts on KaserneScenen, Aarhus. The concerts are presented under the symbolic title: "Still Crazy After All These Years".

The Aarhus Festival 2001 takes place in Christianskirken, Aarhus.

The choir goes on the “Still Crazy in Copenhagen Tour”, during which they also participate in the Copenhagen Festival.

On Sunday evening, the choir performs at the Skanderborg Festival when guest performing with the Danish band, TV2, on the notorious Beech Stages.

On New Year’s Eve, Vocal Line sings national hymns on the Danish television channel, TV2. One million viewers witness the event.

2000

Vocal Line goes on the Copenhagen "Dream Rhymes Tour", which includes performances on the TV2 programme, Good Morning Denmark.

In the month of November, the choir participates in The International Vocal Group Festival in Tilburg in the Netherlands. Vocal Line triumphs in the overall competition and takes home both 1st prize and a lovely cup.

1999

Vocal Line releases "Dream Rhymes" – the choir’s 2nd CD.

The choir participates in the choir competition “In…canto sul Garda” in Riva del Garda, Italy.

The 1999 participation becomes an even bigger success than the one of 1997, even though the choir has to do without their conductor, Jens Johansen, whom is seriously injured en route and left behind in Freiburg. The choir is presented in three different categories and takes 1st prize in two of these, along with 2nd prize in the third one – furthermore; they receive “Le Grand Prix” in ahead of 50 choirs from around the world.

The choir is even awarded with a special prize for “outstanding performance” as well as a prize for Vocal Line singer, Mikkel Crone, for best solo. Vocal Line closes the competition’s grand finale concert in front of 3000 listeners, and takes the opportunity to dedicate their accomplishments to Jens Johansen, whose thorough, preparatory work became the precondition for succeeding.

1998

“Vocal Line stakes on Danish” is the theme for this year’s Aarhus Festival concert with first performance of the Bo Gunge piece, “Moments”, which later is recorded for the Danish Radio channel, P2.

1997

Vocal Line goes on a tour to Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Italy. Vocal Line receives great recognition when participating in the choir competition “In…canto sul Garda” in Riva del Garda, Italy. The choir wins a special prize for rhythmic precision and intensity and, furthermore, is assigned with the highest number of points given to a Danish choir at a Musica Mundi competition, so far.

1996

“Tomorrow Never Knows – Prologue to the future” is the title of the Aarhus Festival concert and is accompanied, among other effects, by a sequencer.

1995

Vocal Line performs “Waters” – a concert programme with the power and symbolic of water as the recurring motif.

Furthermore, the choir performs the concert “A Vocal Affair” alongside Foreign Affair (now known as Group 7).

1994

Vocal Line performs the concert “One World” – a concert with Christian Alvad and James Loveless, arranged in cooperation with Amnesty International.
The concert programme offers world music.

1992

Vocal Line presents the concert “Ice Fire – voices and limbs in trance” – an experimental choir fantasy, written especially for Vocal Line by Pierre Doerge and Bo Gunge. The piece includes both dancers and scenography.

This year the choir also performs “Ever smiling Liberty” – a rock oratorical piece, composed by Jens Johansen and Erling Kullberg, taking offset in the libretto from Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus.

1991

In the month of February, Vocal Line opens auditions.
